Counselling is a type of therapy. I practice person-centred (sometimes called client centred) counselling which is a non-directive talking therapy. In other words you, as the client can choose what you want to talk about and work at your own pace with me working alongside you. Talking therapy helps you to explore your thoughts, feelings and emotions and enables you to make the changes that are right for you, so you can move forward. What’s right for one person isn’t always right for another.
We all have times in our life when we need that extra bit of support, to have somebody who will listen and won’t judge, criticise or try to force you to think in a particular way. Therapy can provide you with that support.
We are all individuals with our own thoughts, feelings and emotions,. You are the expert on you. Its your life, your choices!
For some clients I incorporate aspects of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), which enables them to explore changing their behaviours.
Some children & young people find play/art therapy helps them to relax and to open up in the sessions. I encourage clients to bring with them whatever they need to help them feel at ease, whether that’s a fidget toy, listening to quiet music via a headphone, a cuddly toy, a drink, etc.
Each session is up to an hour long for over 18’s and up to 45 minutes for under 18’s. You can talk about whatever you feel is a priority for you at the time of the session as each week it may be different. Sessions can be booked at a frequency to suit you, and the number of sessions you have is entirely up to you, you don’t have to commit to more than one session.
